Bothy Project PhD Civic Engagement Residency 2025

We’re delighted to announce a call for a PhD Civic Engagement Residency, presented in collaboration with Bothy Project.

The week-long residency will take place from Friday 14 – Friday 21 March, 2025 at Sweeney’s Bothy on the Isle of Eigg.

As well as having time to work on your own research on the residency, the successful applicant will be asked to contribute to a particular aspect of island life by volunteering for one day with a local community organisation. We’ll work with the successful applicant to identify an opportunity that suits them.

The successful applicant will also be invited to introduce their research to the community in a manner suited to the context. Applicants should consider public engagement methods, which could involve for example a talk at the Community Hall, a workshop in An Laimhrig tearoom, or a session planned around a walk.

The successful applicant will have time on Eigg for a sincere encounter which can produce space to develop an equitable and mutually beneficial relationship with the community, sharing expertise and creating positive impacts. You’ll also have the chance to experience the geography and culture of the island and gain insight into projects the community is working on.

Please find full details in the document attached.

Eligibility: This residency is open to PhD researchers in the School of Culture & Creative Arts. You must be available to attend the prescribed week.

Deadline for proposals: 5pm, Thursday 16th January, 2025
